Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Negga for Presumed Innocent – The Killing Times

Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal and Ethiopian-Irish, Oscar-nominated actress Ruth Negga have been announced as the leads in Apple+ TVs forthcoming Presumed Innocent.

Inspired by Scott Turow’s courtroom thriller, Presumed Innocent tells the story of a horrific murder that tears apart the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office when one of its own is suspected of the crime.

A Hollywood movie adaptation came out in 1990.

Produced by David E Kelley, Deadline says that this new adaptation will explore “obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.

“Negga will play Barbara Sabich, the role played by Bonnie Bedelia in the film. Barbara is an artist, gallerist, mother and wife whose life is upended when her husband, Rusty Sabich (Gyllenhaal), is accused of murdering his mistress. Barbara fights to keep her family intact as she tends to her broken heart and broken marriage, and contends with her husband’s highly publicised trial.”
