its funny, i play dota, theres a hero called spectre. her ult is similar to shen, illusions on enemy heros, can teleport freely to those illusions. the playstyle is similar, farm/split then tp when fights start. completely broken. has been forever. the global mechanic is what is too strong. make the hero even somewhat viable outside of their global and its gg.
Why is it the meta to afk under tower if you’re losing, because if you start losing toplane this season you just get obliterated. Riot made an already difficult to play from behind lane multiple times worse because xp.
As well as falling behind in gold you also rapidly fall behind in quest progress and by extension exp making the lane even more unplayable. Since whoever finishes quest first will end up with a massive level lead on top of a gold lead.
So at a certain point people cut their losses, the more they die to the other laner the more kill xp and the more quest progress they give to them, as well as gold. So instead they stand under tower and afk, maybe soak some xp if they can, but just try to minimize the other player snowballing further.
Maybe the other player gets impatient and fails a dive and gives them some resources, if not they just have to hope their teammates can carry and maybe they can get back into the game later.
It is worth mentioning that if you can get plates while behind you can mitigate this as they give a lot of progress, but not all champs can do that.
Yes it makes me want to fall asleep, you don’t have to do it when you win lane. But tbh all of this is why I’ve been trying playing other lanes instead of top, more mid and jungle for me…
