I think if granny had known it was her deathbed she would probably have called to tell you to name your baby as you please.:) I love Mabel, for the record.
Personally, I wouldn’t let my family or my partners family to tell me what I’m allowed to name the child I’m growing. That is a quick way to not get a Christmas card. To tell me my child would be ashamed because it rhymes with something that sounds similar is CRAZY crazy.
Don’t do it. She hated that name for a reason and maybe… there is more to it than the sound of the name. My guess is she had a negative interaction that stuck with her.
Don't forget she can change it when she's older if she really hates it but other children are cruel and mercilessly a-holes and the teasing is real in this world unfortunately
I don't care for the name Mabel at all…it makes me think of a crotchety old woman who swings her cane at people 😂 that is just my opinion. You are the ones who will be living with her, and you want to like her name.
My mom was going to name me April May. Her mother said “you better not name that baby that, she will get made fun of her entire life”. So I have a different middle name. But I still get called April May June and everyone who does, thinks they are so original. 😂 I kinda answer to any month of the year that gets hollered out…just in case. Lol
No offense ofc, but ur daughter might be ashamed of any name you give her early in life when dealing with peers. In my experience as a teenager with mildly unconventional naming habits, who switched to my birth name during high school, I would have hated any name I was given because of my mental state and severe depression. I did end up feeling more comfortable with my birth name and even the other one, but that was only after I stopped hating *myself*. So moral of the story, just be patient and understanding and be the amazing mom I'm sure you are, and it'll be okay with whatever name you choose❤❤❤
i was supposed to be named Marina, but my great grandma said it sounded like a place where ships are docked. i LOVE that name 🥲 will forever wonder what life would’ve been like as Marina
Maybelle

Mabel is a perfectly adorable name. But yes, Maple would be a good (and crunchy) loophole. 😅 Or Maybelle
Mable is kind of old fashioned.
Make it her middle name.
Mabel is an ugly, old fashioned name. Try again.
My 85 year old mother in law Mable, spelled correctly I might add would agree with grandma
Mabel definitely slept with her man
Yes, its just a name and Mabel is a lovely name
Mabel is perfect.

Mabel is a cute name, and she was my favorite character from gravity falls. I think Maple works as well she'll sound like an animal crossing character

Yes, but it sounds like a cow's name Mabel. Sounds like something you'd name a barnyard animal In my opinion.
I think it’s a hideous name and she’ll be made fun of because it’s an awful name. My granddaughters have beautiful names.
You can go against anyone else’s wish, deathbed or not. I think she was rude to call you.

Go watch Gravity Falls then come back. 😆
Pleeeeeease pick Maple instead!
I like a lot of m names Mazie and Madeline are my favorite. Also Matilda 🌸💁🏻♀️
I know 2 little girls named Mable, the parents must have read the same book.

You can do it but consider this: your daughter may one day become aware of this story and gain that association.
I never met my grandpa, but I’m aware of the name he wanted for me and I’m glad my mom chose to ignore her own dying father to give me my actual name.
