  1. There's a good chance they could just build the Champ in a US plant, avoiding the chicken tax and keeping prices lower. They are already working on flexible production methods to build different vehicles on the same line. Toyota also very much believes in the "build where we sell" mentality

  2. Because capatalism is a lie at this point. Its not about market demand, its just about power and money. These companies would be out of business within days in a free market.

  3. It’s the reason why Toyota and Nissan started building trucks in America. The old 80’s Toyota beds rusted out at 3x the rate of the cab and frame bc the body and frame were Japan built and the bed was made in America without the Japanese QC. Nissan built the Smyrna TN to avoid the tax. F’in Ford builds the transit vans with a full pax interior, ships it to the US, tears out the window, seats, and carpets, then labels it as a work van just to avoud this stupid tax.

  4. If the government stayed out of car manufacturing then they could make cars cheaper. No bells or whistles just a/c and a radio. Manual transmission, no airbags, no gps, just a car or truck like back in the day. Remember: cars are for driving not wrecking! 😂

  5. Try again. Even with the chicken tax it would be the cheapest truck on the market, yet it's nowhere to be found. You really think Toyota is going to sell you a $15k truck when they have lots full of $70k Tundra trucks? lol Toyota is just as greedy as the rest.

  6. the us auto industry has been so busy being babied by the american government they forgot they need to make actual good quality products to compete in the market. buy american, go broke.

  7. You CAN technically own a Champ in the USA. But the drawback is, you will have to go through the importation process, pay absurd tariff prices, and register it as an off road vehicle. So what was once a $15k truck now becomes as expensive as a Ford Maverick just to drive it off road

  8. Anything built before 2001 is legal to import to the US. Find someone that does the importing thing and point them at the vehicle you want.
We had a nasty snowfall here a year or 2 back, wasn't able to get to work because the city hadn't cleared the streets. (it was that bad) I started looking into getting me a Unimog, found some places that do that specifically.
Though, "cheap" and Unimog don't work together.
Then went down the rabbit hole of looking at a Holden Ute from down under.
There's options and ways if you really want something.
MINI made a version that wasn't sold in the US, looked into getting one of those from 2000-2001. Seems they didn't even sell in the UK/Europe. That, or anyone that has one isn't wanting to get rid of it. MINI One D.
Base version was like $14k, with a Diesel that got something like 55-60 MPG.

  9. Imagine if the big three made a reliable truck that wasn’t extremely overpriced, now here we go with the comments saying I’m just poor, no I’m just not dumb, 70-90k for something that is unreliable, better reliability out of mid 90’s to 2015

  10. Damn being into bakkies and not being able to buy a hilux must be painful💀 (In South Africa, "pickup trucka" are called bakkies. Its a borrowed afrikaans word. It's pronounced like buckie or buckies)

  11. Egos sell trucks not needs. The guys that actually use their trucks seem to hold onto them forever. The guys who look cool in their trucks trade them in every few years.

For 30k or so you can build yourself the ultimate truck that will last forever. A older common model like a F 150,Silverado or Tacoma rebuilt using high quality aftermarket parts will out last you.

  12. They aren’t being released in America due to emissions and crash test standards. Those trucks are light because they don’t have airbag or door beams and small engines have different emissions in Japan. The Japanese don’t get the Tacoma

  13. Oh im sure it has nothing to do with the lack of safety feature that are required by law in America. Oh and you can buy them you just have to import them. Which costs a lot of money. So giving misinformation.

  14. I found a way around the regulation what you do is buy one in another country then take it apart and ship it to the us then it is considered a kit car so you can bypass the crash testing regulations then you re assemble it and depending on what state you are in if it has really strict emissions and the engine won’t pass then take an engine from an existing Toyota that is similar and put it in the truck
