My dad never left the driveway without having a cereal or beer box tucked behind the seat of the truck. Never knew when he was gonna have to break into the old Rochester 2jet
Oh yeah. I've got plenty of time to get to the old gasket and then cheap out when I put the cardboard in its place. Anyone with common sense who goes into this kind of repair will have already bought a new gasket ahead of time.
No, just no. I mean yes cardboard, but not the hammer. That's how you destroy a machined surface. You could place the cardboard, press the edges with your finger and get the outline.
That kid who fixes up old stuff used this on an old tractor to get it out from under a falling shed. It works just not for long. Like he said it’s a contingency
This was a 90s staple in the aussie hells kitchen we grew up in,one of the dads double layered a coco pops box as a head gasket, still not sure how it lasted 😂
I don’t need to get home that bad especially on a transmission. I’ll tow it before I do a repair twice. Oh yeah let me drop my trans in a parking lot and use a cardboard box and save the 10 minutes of going to the autozone. Makes no sense. Hacks that’s why I pay insurance get a tow and get reimbursed at the end of the week.

Bro just stop shouting
except now the mating surface looks like someone whacked at it for 20 minutes with a ballpeen hammer

This is called CAD, Cardboard Aided Design
Hitting a transmission mating surface with a hammer… Yeah that's a great idea.
Old trick bro bro😂 exacto knife and a mechanical #5 pencil protractor an ruler and a hole punch or leather punch does same thing 😊
Was taught that in the army

It works great in 2 layers and shellac. It’ll get it home for sure.
