the new album Empathogen, and her previous COPINGMECHANISM both showcase her amazing talent. she is not a common pop artist. she has moved on from whipping her hair.
I'm afraid you're wrong in saying that this is like nothing that anybody has ever heard before because I picked up straight away that this is very heavily influenced by Imogen Heap. I was even asking myself whether or not Imogen Heap was involved within the production and the song writing of this. so actually this is not brand new, although this could be the future of music, this is also the past of music because this is nostalgia core. this is nodding back to that era of Imogen Heap when she was putting out those amazing groundbreaking songs of hers
There is a little hope. If you believe that Grammy are any indication of music trends, Jon Batiste won the best album Grammy in 2021 with Samara Joy winning best new artist grammy in 2023. If you go back a few years Beck won album of the year for Morning Phase in 2015. I would love to see this song nominated in one of the pop, or even jazz categories but I would be surprised if it is.
This brings me hope but unfortunately this type of music doesn't reach mainstream because it has more than 4 chords and people think that's weird. Great music though
Sure the vocal is good, even very good. But the studio version is way overproduced and overprocessed. Still it's good, even very good, and certainly far better than Ed Sheeran's or Taylor Swift's nonsense. And if pop music were to head more in this direction, which it won't, it might actually be worth listening to. But I won't hold my breath. Also, listen to "Home" and tell me it's "pop".
Rick Beato, so sad but I have to disagree with you 180%. Willow is visiting our temples, so we devotees are in favor of her, but at the same time, this is certainly not as good a song as you declare. Sorry about that…
There are some many great NPR tiny desk performances. I loved Nile Rodgers and Hiromi. One of the best black crows performances I've seen. Hiromi blew me away. And then there is Laufey….. So many talented people.
Prog poppppppppppppppp ๐
Alright Willow! I hear a Joni Mitchell influence or similar delivery, taken to another level. Went for my earbuds for a close listen. Wonderful!
Excellent voice.
the album is really good
Hey Rick, what program did you use to isolate Willow's voice ?
It's funny how Michael Jackson as a child had more voice and talent than the fools who think they are musicians today

Que locura los cambios de tempo ๐ฎ Willow es un genio
This sounds horrible. The band is ok I guess maybe, and the singer is in key, still sounds horrible

She absolutely listened to Carbon by Tori Amos at some point before writing this! Either way fantastic stuff.

But who wrote it? Just asking โค

any way I can purchase the song before it is ruined? 6:14 that's how it should be

This isn't pop music to me. To me, this is more like modern jazz.
so refreshing to listen to educated music in pop again
Rick you should curate a playlist of "how I envisioned pop music would sound in the year 2024" !
Reminds of Kate Bush a little bit. Which isn't a bad thing.
The idea of a trend called "progressive pop" sounds great. It would be a breaking point from the stale and faceless "music" we hear nowadays.
RICK A REVIEW OF CARDIACS??????

The verse sounds so Radiohead to me, but then the chorus sounds almost 90s 2000s hip hop, but way better.
