This one is really good advice. You can use a note other than the key to add tension before a drop of any kind. The best example I can think of is Garden Grove by Sublime. You can hear the tone before pretty much everything else.
I'd recommend making a short on using Foley background atmosphere, (like just the background of a mall, or a field or whatever vibe you're going for). and how to tune in it to your key.
The note u use doesn’t always have to be the root or relative minor. It can be any note that fits all the chords in the progression (tho the root is usually guaranteed to work). For example in the pnau remix u showed, the song is in Bb minor but the strings also play a high f above the Bb (there’s two notes in the drone). I should also mention that the f is the note that you definitely hear a lot clearer then the Bb.
Another really cool semi-electronic pop example here is Running Up That Hill, which has a "frozen" reverb drone (like in the other short you did) playing a stripped down C minor chord, just the C and the Eb (a.k.a. D#)
Also try using the 5th (7 semitones about the root)
What's the name of that string in flex?
❤️❤️ Video And ur Double Fan awesome 😂🔥🔥
Your fan behind also looks like a drone though😂❤

Do you have any tips for vocals? I’m making a mixtape and It’s very hard for me to mix cause my voice just sounds like crap on the beat
This is an old trick I noticed recently, thank you for spelling it out !
"Tonal drone" A.K.A just a fucking string
Sometimes when I hear a song on the radio I try to find the right note and hum it. It’s really satisfying for some reason.
Dudes likes drones so much, he converted his fan into one.

I guess you could also add the super tonic (which is the second note of the scale).

Another song that does it well is " is this what falling in love feels like " especially when it pauses for jvke singing
I do this all the time! but I always use the fifth of the major scale with the root.
Drones are super good 💓….I love them so frickin much 💓
Noice fan.
I didn’t know that this technique had a name! FYI, a lot of hip hop artists like the alchemist, Griselda etc.. uses this technique!
I have loved people.
But this is the only time I have loved someone's mind
This a great tip. Thanks! 😄
