Android 16 can bring a major UI makeover for smartphone users. From the Quick Settings panel to app icons, the company will seemingly redesign every corner of the device. Perhaps users will get another level of UI interaction with the new upgrade.
Google has recently rolled out Android 16 Beta 4, which now signals that a big UI makeover is coming. Android expert – Mishaal Rahman has found a few hidden changes in the latest testing version regarding the user interface.
The first highlight of this change is Material 3 Expressive. The company has upgraded its Material You design with even more attractive features and customizations.
Other highlights are:
- New Status bar icons and clock font
- Redesigned Notifications and Quick Settings panel
- Cleaner Lock Screen
- New design for volume and media output UI
- Expressive Settings app
- Icon shapes
Status Bar, Clock font: Google has revamped status bar icons like Wi-Fi, mobile data, airplane mode, and battery level. They are more recognizable with a bolder look. The battery icon turns red when it’s low and green when charging. The font has a larger, bolder, and more subtle look than before.

Redesigned Quick Settings: Google has added resizable Quick Settings tiles, new one-click toggles for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It has an organized tile editor. Thus, users can add or remove tiles via one-click shortcuts. It also has a new brightness slider and downward-facing arrows for expandable tiles.
The panel now has a blurred background, specifically for the Quick Settings panel. As a result, users can easily read notifications. Light mode makes the background glassy, while the dark mode shows a gray transparency.

Lock Screen: Date and Weather info will appear below or beside the clock, based on the clock’s position (below, when the clock is at the center, and beside, when the clock is at the top). Also, the screen shows only the app’s icon instead of a full notification preview. One can click on the transparent app icon chip to expand alerts.
Google has also altered the PIN entry page. Apart from blur background, the number dots now shows impressive colors, which is quite in line with Material You.
