The symposium is organised by Diego Garcia Rodriguez (University of Nottingham), Calogero Giametta (University of Leicester), Sophia Zisakou (Lund University) and Rieke Schröder (University of Münster).

Funding is available for researchers with lived experience, PhD students, and unemployed researchers.

About the Symposium

We are thrilled to announce the 3rd International Queer(y)ing Asylum Symposium, taking place at Lund University, Sweden, on 30–31 October 2025.

This symposium is generously funded by the Nordic Gender Fund through the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research, supporting critical dialogues on queer asylum.

This symposium invites critical reflections and innovative research on queer asylum issues, with particular emphasis on how far‑right discourses are impacting border policies in recent times.

  • Transnational activism and resistance
  • Decolonial approaches to LGBTIQ+ asylum
  • Participatory research with LGBTIQ+ people seeking asylum
  • Legal frameworks and policies affecting LGBTIQ+ people seeking asylum

  • South-to-South LGBTIQ+ asylum experiences
  • Healthcare access and challenges for LGBTIQ+ people seeking asylum

Please submit your abstract for the 3rd International Queer(y)ing Asylum Symposium, taking place in person at Lund University, Sweden on 30th and 31st October 2025. The deadline to submit is the 15th of May 2025.
