Tangerine Apricot Chicken Tagine

This easy chicken tagine recipe brings the warm, comforting flavors of Moroccan cuisine right to your kitchen. With this easy recipe there is no need for special equipment like the traditional clay cooking vessel. Made with tender chicken, aromatic spices, and simple pantry ingredients, it’s a one-pot dish that’s both flavorful and fuss-free.
This chicken dish with exotic Moroccan spices and flavors is just mouth wateringly good! I like to serve it with a side dish of sauteed zucchini and carrots.

Moroccan Chicken Tagine Ingredients:
- 2 chicken legs (drumstick with thigh attached s best but you may use skinless thighs if that is what you can get)
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- ½ tsp finely grated lemon zest
- ½ tsp ground cumin seeds
- ¼ tsp powdered ginger
- 1 tangerine, peeled, separated
- dried apricots, thinly sliced
- 8 pitted green olives
- 1/3 cup whole almonds
- ¼ cup water
- ½ packet Kiss My Keto Bone Broth (Thai Green Curry Chicken)
Classic Chicken Tagine uses a harissa paste or a Moroccan spice blend called Ras el Hanout. To make this recipe, easy we use a curry broth to provide the exotic spice kick. You may substitute 1/4 cup chicken stock in place of the 1/4 cup water and 1/2 packet of Kiss My Keto Chicken Bone Broth. However, the curry flavor in the Kiss My Keto Bone Broth is quite nice in this chicken tagine recipe.
You may substitute skinless chicken thighs or chicken breasts on the bone in place of the chicken leg quarters. They are often easier to find at your local grocery store chain.

How To Make Chicken Tagine
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
- In a large bowl, combine the turmeric, lemon zest, cumin seeds, and ginger.
- Remove the skin from the chicken legs and place them them to the spice mixture in the bowl. Rub each of the chicken pieces with the chicken season mixture until evenly coated.
- Place chicken legs into a baking dish. Pour in any extra spices from the bowl. This contributes to the richness of the dish.Top with apricot, briny green olives, almonds, and a mix of water and instant bone broth.
- Place in oven and bake uncovered for 45 minutes.
- Reduce heat to 350F and continue to bake for another 30
minutes. - Remove from the oven and cool on the counter for 10 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with chopped parsley if you so desire. Add salt and black pepper to taste, if you desire.

This Moroccan meal is great served on a bed of cauliflower “couscous” with a bit of Greek yogurt for dressing. Moroccan flatbread would also be a delicious option to serve with the Chicken Tagine.
