Can HR boost AI security? And updates from Lattice, Employ, more

A significant gap has emerged between the speed at which organizations are adopting artificial intelligence and their ability to implement adequate security measures to guard against AI-related risk, according to new research highlighting critical vulnerabilities in enterprise AI deployment.

The AI Risk & Readiness in the Enterprise 2025 Report, based on a study of 230 security professionals conducted by AI risk management firm BigID, reveals that more than 90% of organizations surveyed lack full confidence in their ability to secure AI-driven data.

This security deficit could pose particular risks for human resources departments, where AI tools increasingly handle sensitive employee data and influence critical decisions around hiring and performance evaluation.

A separate report from Cisco found that nearly two-thirds of companies have integrated AI into their operations, yet only 13% feel fully prepared to manage the associated security risks. This disparity underscores the urgent need for HR departments to collaborate closely with IT and security teams in developing comprehensive AI governance frameworks.

The BigID research identifies two primary security threats: AI-powered data leaks and the proliferation of “Shadow AI”—unauthorized or unmonitored AI tools operating outside formal organizational oversight. Nearly 70% of organizations surveyed cite data leaks as their primary concern, while approximately half express worry about Shadow AI implementations.

Building security through culture

There are moves HR leaders can make to help the enterprise reduce its risk. Research from Gartner suggests that structured workplace security initiatives can reduce employee-driven cybersecurity incidents by 40% by 2026. This projection reflects growing recognition that human behavior plays a central role in cyber risk management.

Organizations are increasingly embedding security awareness into their workplace culture as a strategy for building long-term operational resilience.

The approach represents a shift from reactive security measures to proactive cultural change, positioning employees as active participants in organizational cybersecurity rather than potential vulnerabilities.

Implementation gap persists

Despite growing awareness of AI security risks, a significant disconnect remains between organizational priorities and actual implementation. While 36.1% of business leaders identify compliance and governance as top priorities, only 14.2% report actively implementing AI security controls, according to the BigID findings.

This implementation gap occurs against a backdrop of increasing strain on security teams. Gartner research highlights growing burnout among cybersecurity professionals in an industry already facing chronic skills shortages.

“Cybersecurity burnout and its organizational impact must be addressed to maintain program effectiveness,” says Alex Michaels, senior principal analyst at Gartner.

“Leading security risk management leaders are going beyond managing their own stress—they’re investing in team-wide wellbeing initiatives that build lasting resilience.”
