Key takeaways:

  • AIMed25 will be held Nov. 10-12 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego.
  • About three dozen chief AI officers are expected to attend, according to AIMed founder Anthony Chang, MD.

At this year’s AIMed25 conference, attendees will learn more about the future of AI in health care from industry leaders, fellow medical professionals and AI experts.

Through its expert-led panels, discussions of AI strategy in health care and available networking and professional development opportunities, AIMed25 is “where the brightest minds in artificial intelligence and medicine converge to shape the future of healthcare,” according to its website.

The conference will be held at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego from Monday, Nov. 10, through Wednesday, Nov. 12. Those interested can register here.

Some highlights of the meeting agenda include breakfast workshops, subspecialty breakouts and sessions exploring real-world application of AI. Keynote speeches will be delivered by Daniel Kraft, MD, founder of NextMed Health and chair of the XPRIZE Pandemic & Health Alliance; Gary Marcus, PhD, cognitive scientist and founder of Geometric Intelligence; and Nina Kottler, MD, MS, associate chief medical office for clinical artificial intelligence at Radiology Partners.

Healio is AIMed25’s official media partner. To learn what attendees can look forward to at this year’s meeting, Healio spoke with AIMed founder Anthony Chang, MD, MBA, MPH, MS, pediatric cardiologist at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and the medical director of the Heart Failure Program. He is also the chief intelligence and innovation officer of the CHOC Sharon Disney Lund Medical Intelligence, Information, Investigation, and Innovation Institute.

Healio: Who would you say would benefit most from attending AIMed25?

Chang: We serve many elements of the ecosystem of AI and health care. That ranges from front-line clinicians — including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants and nurse practitioners — to data scientists, hospital administrators, investors and entrepreneurs. AIMed25 includes almost everybody. It’s probably the most balanced in terms of people who attend compared with other meetings.

Healio: What themes do you expect will emerge from this years event? How will those themes be different than in previous years?

Chang: We pick three tracks, or “hot themes,” to cover every year. This year, one track will be advances and innovations in medical imaging. The second track will be on the education of AI in health care. The third track will be AI in pediatrics and neonatology.

Healio: Can you provide a preview of some of the sessions or hands-on experiences at AIMed25?

Chang: Besides those three tracks, we will also have, for the first time, a chief AI officer meeting and luncheon. One will be closed, and the other will be open to the public. That is something that we’re excited about because it’s the first time that chief AI officers have come together, and it’s a growing group of leaders in AI and health care. We have about three dozen chief AI officers committed to come.

Healio: What sort of opportunities exist for networking?

Chang: There will be a lot of networking time, because we know that’s what people would like to do. We will even have a lounge set up for it. We also traditionally have a reception and award night, recognizing people who have been big contributors in AI and health care, providing further networking opportunities.

Healio: What are you most looking forward to at this years conference?

Chang: I’m looking forward to rekindling friendships and camaraderie with the people who attend. It’s quite a special family of AI in health care that started 11 years ago now. We already have 360 plus registered to attend, so we’re expecting well over a thousand this year.

Healio: Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Chang: This is a different kind of meeting than other AI in health care meetings. I believe we are the first; we launched about 11 years ago. We’re also the biggest. We do not focus on just the machine learning data science part of AI, or the AI companies doing what are essentially pitches. We’re right in the middle of those two things, where everything comes together.
