In average word problems we will solve different types of problems on basic concept of average.

1. Richard scored 80, 53, 19, 77, 29 and 96 runs in 6 innings in a series. Find the average runs scored by him in the series.

Answer: 59

2. Stephen secured 91, 76, 59, 67 and 82 marks in 5 tests in Science. What are the average marks secured by him in all the tests?

Answer: 75


3. The children of 7 student are 184 cm, 156 cm, 128 cm, 189 cm, 162 cm, 132 cm and 134 cm. Find the average height of the children.

Answer: 155 cm

4. The age of each student of a group is as follows. Find the average age of the students.

Mary = 18 years

Elizabeth = 16 years

Susan = 16 years

Lisa = 19 years

Ashley = 16 years

Carol = 17 years

Answer: 17 years

5. The average of four numbers is 51. Three of the numbers are 35, 69 and 75. Find the fourth number.

Answer: 25

6. The average marks obtained by Nairitee in 6 subjects are 91. If she obtained 98, 82, 79, 95 and 93 in four subjects, find the marks obtained in the fifth subject.

Answer: 99

7. The average age of eight boys is 18 years. The ages of 7 boys are 15, 20, 24, 14, 19, 21, 18 years. Find the age of the eighth boy.

Answer: 13 years

8. The marks obtained by Nairitee in a Board examination are given below.

English: 79

Bengali: 90

Maths: 98

Social Science: 86

Science: 92

Find her average marks.

9. The average age of 10 employees of a company is 45. If the average age of 9 of them is 43. Find the age of the tenth employee.

Answer: 63

10. The average school fee per month of 5 students is ₹ 745. If the average fee of 4 of them is ₹ 732, find the monthly school fee for the fifth student.

Answer: ₹ 797

11. Nairitee bought five toys for 356 from one toy shop and 5 toys for 314 from another toy book shop. Find the average price of the toys she bought.

Answer: ₹ 797

12. William travelled 253 km in the first 5 hours and 396 km in the last 6 hours. Find the average distance he travelled per hour.

Answer: 59

13. The average of 6 numbers is 52. The average of other 6 numbers is 58 Find the average of all the 12 numbers taken together.

Answer: 55

14. The average age of 7 girls is 23 years. If the age of three boys are 25 years, 18 years and 22 years find the average age of the remaining four boys.

Answer: 24 years

15. The average monthly salary of two men and a woman is ₹ 11345. If the salary of two men is ₹ 3586 and ₹ 4562, find the salary of the woman.

Answer: ₹ 3197

16. Matthew scored 30, 45, 40 and 20 runs in four innings. How many runs should he score in the fifth innings to make his average run 40 in five innings?

Answer: 65 runs

17. Andrew distributed 2142 apples among 7 students. The average apple given to four students is 302. How much did other three get together? Also calculate the average apple received by all the 7 students.

Answer: 934 apples; 306 apples

18. Andrew earned ₹ 18360 last year. The average income in the first six months was ₹ 1400 and the average income in the next five months was ₹ 1600. Find the money earned in the last month of that year.

Answer: ₹ 1960

19. Ronald earned 1252,  2400, 2650 and 2750 in four months. Stephanie earned 3250, 3000, 3500 and 2950 in the same months. Find the average income of both.

Answer: ₹ 2263; ₹ 3175

20. Alexander travelled at 75 km for the first hour, 95 km for the second hour and 85 km for the third hour. If he travelled 325 km in four hours, how much did he travel in the last hour. What was the average speed? Also calculate the average speed of the first two hours journey.

Answer: 70 km; 81.25 km; 85 km
