From Fogo Island in Newfoundland. This image is a stack of 3 exposures, all at f/16 and 30 seconds. I used f/16 to get star-spikes with the street lamps, and the 30 second exposure was enough time to capture car head lights and tail lights moving through the frame. In Photoshop I stacked all 3 exposures as layers and set the top 2 layers to the Lighten blend mode so that only the brighter pixels (lights) blended in with the bottom layer. This gave me more car light trails in the final image. I could have shot a single shot at 90 seconds or two minutes, etc, but by stacking shorter length exposures I have greater control over the final image, I can mask out any lights that overlapped too much or didn’t make the image look good.
Nikon Z 7, FTZ lens adapter and NIKKOR 70-200mm f/4 lens @ 160mm, f/16, ISO 200, 30 seconds, 3 exposures.
