Tiring business, lazing around in a wee boat in idyllic conditions – even if there’s few fish showing.
The secret is – take whatever’s on offer and find a way to enjoy it. On this day it was a long lunch break with fresh tea from the Kelly Kettle – boiled peaty water from the middle of the loch. Tea made like that somehow tastes better than the same thing brewed with the same tea here at home. This was always my tea stopover when at Loch Lee – here you might see birds of sorts you’ll never see in the central lowlands – like the Ring Ouzel, the only onesuch I’ve ever seen – it flushed repeatedly from shoreside scrub along the North shore as the boat drifted parallel to the bank, about twenty feet out in deepish water. It was a no-camera day so I just enjoyed seeing it and made a note to never revisit here without a decent camera.
