This picture got me in a bit of a sentimental mood and reminds me of a song that in our family we use to sing on Christmas. It is not really a Christmas song (other than in our family 😉 but rather a poem by Joseph von Eichendorff that has been set to music. Here is a rough translation:
———————————————————-
I stand in the shadows of the forest
Like on the edge of my life
The landscape like dawning meadows
The river like a silver ribbon
From afar the church bells are chiming
Ringing across the forests
A deer raises frightened his head
And goes back to slumber after a moment
But the forest is swaying its tree tops
Dreaming of the rock wall
And the Lord walks over the peaks
And blesses the silent land
———————————————————-
The German song is here: ♫♫♫
