Lego Trials of Two-Face Part 9

Lego Trials of Two-Face Part 9

First Juror: "We find him.. guilty as charged."

The judge bangs his gavel.

WHAT!? Guilty!? How could they find him guilty? They should re-look. Take more time. Anything so that I don’t-

Harvey: (Breathes deeply)

He’s guilty. That’s what the jury decided. Guilty. But if they gave me more time, surely I could convince them. Maybe it was arranged that way! Someone wanted a shorter trail so Drury would be found guilty! I should go up and tell the judge just what’s happening! No, no. The voice is stronger, but wrong. The jury found Drury guilty, and that’s it. No higher force with evil agendas. Nothing I can do anymore. As we stand to leave, I look to Drury, who looks disappointed, and a bit angry. But when our eyes meet, he looks away.

Drury: (nervous, not making eye-contact) "Th-thanks for defending me, even if ya lost."

Now that I look around, no-one is making eye-contact with me. The judge, Steven, the jury, the cops. They all look away as if they’re scared. Scared I’m going to do something in my anger. They have no reason to think that! Maybe I should give them one! Nope, it’s not my fault. I’m not the one who scarred my face…. Maroni is.
Once I leave, I do a little digging. Find out where Maroni hangs out. Where he does business. I eventually find a diner downtown that he’s been spotted at numerous times. Grabbing my gun, I decide to meet him there.
I walk through the door of the diner, gun concealed. Looking around for Maroni, I see some familiar faces. All of them convicted because of crimes that we thought were Maroni’s doing, but could never find enough evidence for. Eventually I locate him at the third table from the entrance along the window. I start walking over there, but get stopped by some thugs.

Harvey: "Get your hands off me. I’ve come to speak with Maroni, and I don’t need your permission."

They’re about to find my gun when:

Maroni: (looks over) "Ay, let him through. He won’t do nuthin’, not with that rep, and all these witnesses."

I sit down across from Maroni, shifting my gun to my pocket. I notice he’s relaxed, and that he hasn’t appeared to order anything. He may have just gotten here, or been prepared to leave. Which means I may not have a lot of time.

Harvey: "How do you know I won’t arrest you?"

Maroni: "If I was going to get arrested, they’d send the cops. Or the Bat. But not you. So whaddya come here for?"

Harvey: "I know what you did. Or rather, what you had done."

I nod to under the table. He looks, and presumably sees the outline of my gun in my pocket.

Maroni: "And what exactly did I do?"

Harvey: "After I put your guy away, you hired Anthony Zucco to kill me. Only it didn’t work out as planned, now did it?"

Maroni: (chuckles) "For Gotham’s White Knight, you sure aren’t that bright."

As Maroni laughs at his own bad joke, I get angered. And that anger turns to uncertainty. What if I was wrong? No, I’m right. He hired Zucco, all the evidence is there. And now he’s going to pay.

Maroni: "What? Ain’t you got a sense of humor?"

Harvey: (Face reddens. Rather, the unscarred side of his face reddens.) "What’s to laugh about? I’ve got you this time. And there’s nothing you can do about it."

Maroni: "Oh yeah, what makes you so sure?"

Harvey: "I found fingerprints, then traced those back to Zucco. Doing a little investigating led me to discover he works for you."

Maroni: "Nice theory, just one problem. I haven’t used Zucco in weeks, not since Deadshot came to town."

Harvey: "What? You’re lying. He works for you. I put your guy away. Zucco attacked me! Obviously you hired him!"

Maroni: "I don’t know what to tell ya, it wasn’t me. Sure I was upset when you locked up my top dealer, but I got others." (Shocked) "No, I don’t. You know what, forget you heard that. Forget you talked to me. We’re done here."

He signals for his men to take me away. I get up and walk myself out, pushing away the thug who offered to do it for me. Could he be telling the truth? The emails did stop a few weeks before my attempted assassination. Apparently he’s been using Deadshot. I’ll have to tell James to look into that. But if it wasn’t him, then who? Come on Harvey, think. I go home and sift through all my notes based off my findings at Zucco’s. Finding nothing, I decide to take a break and make myself some tea to calm down. Once it’s ready, I go back to examine my findings once more. There’s the emails from Mareli, the addresses, the circus, then the letters from E, no wait, F, V-

Harvey: (Spills tea) "Darn it! I spilled my… tea."

That’s it! V-tea. Viti! Johnny Viti! That’s who Zucco was in contact with! And it makes perfect sense because Johnny is the nephew of… Carmine Falcone.

Looking back, this issue is a lot longer than the first one. Hopefully the writing is better as well. But the series is ending. All that’s left is the finale, and I’m sure you can guess what it will be about. Hope you liked it, and have a terrific day!

EDIT: I just realized that Maroni uses the same head/hair combo as the Bank Manager in Part 5. There# are no connections between them, it’s purely coincidental.
