By the time the weekend rolls around, staying in and watching a show are just about the only plans that sound appealing to me. I used to get excited about getting dressed up and staying out late, but I won’t lie to you, those days are over. Instead, streaming what’s new is now my idea of a wild Saturday night. I’m so committed to it, I’m even marking release dates in my calendar months in advance.
With all of the streaming services now, it can be hard to keep up with what to watch and where to watch it. However, this month, the lineups are so good that you’ll want to ensure you have a subscription to every platform, or at least your friends’ passwords. These shows and movies are about to be the sole topic of conversation in The Everygirl’s #watercooler Slack channel, and I’ll be damned if I miss out on that.
Cancel your plans and get comfortable because it’s time to hit “Play.” Without further ado, here are some of the most anticipated shows and movies that are new on streaming this month.
Netflix
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
If you’re a Knives Out fan, you’ll be excited to see that a new addition to the series hit our screens this month. Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) returns for his most dangerous case yet in the third and darkest chapter of our favorite murder mystery series. There’s priests, blood, and of course—murder. I’m ready to make my guesses already!
Emily in Paris (Season 5)
She’s back! I’m counting down the days until I can get my hands on season 5 of Emily in Paris. It looks like we’re in for a wild ride galivanting between Paris and Rome this season. Who will she end up with? Will she end up with anyone? I don’t even know anymore, but I will absolutely still binge-watch the whole thing.
Stranger Things (Season 5 Volume 2)
The long-awaited fifth season of Stranger Things dropped last month, and I’m completely locked in and waiting for Volume 2, which comes out near the end of the month. I’ll be anxiously anticipating seeing how the series comes to a (hopefully) satisfying end—just, please, no character deaths.
Peacock
The Copenhagen Test
I’ll admit that I’m totally guilty of watching anything Simu Liu stars in, and to my excitement, Peacock is ending the year with this twist-filled espionage thriller. Liu stars as a brilliant intelligence analyst whose brain is hacked by a mole in his spy agency, forcing him to question everything as he tries to clear his name.
Hulu / Disney+
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Season 2)
For those of us who grew up reading the Percy Jackson series and were totally obsessed with the Logan Lerman movie adaptations (guilty), this series reboot had us cautious at first. But I’m optimistic after the first season, and I can’t wait to get into season 2, which seems to follow the timelines of the books closely.
Prime Video
Oh. What. Fun.
This wouldn’t be a December roundup without a few holiday movies! This new holiday comedy stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Felicity Jones, Chloë Grace Moretz, and more as a chaotic family during the holidays. Claire (Pfeiffer) runs away on a crazy cross-country holiday journey after her family leaves her at home (reverse Home Alone, anyone?).
Merv
What can I say? I’m a sucker for any and all animal movies. This romantic comedy stars Zoey Deschanel and Charlie Cox as a separated couple who share their very special dog, Merv. This feel-good film is sure to make me laugh and even shed a few tears.
