PXG Lightning woods are new for 2026 with the fairways featuring two models for the first time – the Lightning and Lightning Tour.
Released along with new Lightning drivers and hybrids, the fairway woods match up by having standard and tour-level options to cater for golfers and all levels.
PXG have made improvements to the Black Ops fairway woods by focusing on faster ball speeds, tighter dispersion and versatile playability from both tee and turf.
The new 2026 Lightning features a new thinner and faster face for increased ball speeds across every loft and redistributed weight low and to the perimeter for a higher launch and improved forgiveness.
Pros & Cons
✅ Very high forgiveness thanks to larger footprint, big carbon crown and heavy rear and perimeter weighting
✅ Easy, high launch with strong carry from both tee and fairway
✅ Adjustable weighting and hosel make it simple to dial in draw/fade bias
✅ Compact head of the Tour with taller face gives a traditional, workable look that many low‑handicappers
✅ Forward weight option and tour‑inspired CG deliver lower spin, flatter launch
❌ Larger, more stretched head shape may not appeal to better players who prefer a compact look
❌ Lower launch and spin profile of the Tour can make it harder to hold greens or carry hazards
PXG Lightning Fairway Woods Specs & Design
The Lightning is the standard model of the two options and has a larger and more squared-off face for confidence-inspiring forgiveness.
The larger and square-toe, low-profile head is designed for confidence from both tee and turf and prioritizes forgiveness, distance and versatility for most golfers over the shot shaping qualities of the Tour model.
The woods also have a large high-strength carbon fiber crown that is up to 84% larger than previous models, helping to lower the center of gravity and boosts MOI.
Lightning fairways feature a variable-thickness face that is 12.5% thinner at the perimeter than the previous Black Ops woods, with 4% more flex for higher ball speeds.
Progressive Face Geometry is also incorporated into the design with the bulge/roll varying by loft for a tighter dispersion on mishits.
A Laser-Etched Face introduces micro-texturing to enhance spin control and shot stability even in moist conditions, while a new feature is the Spined Sole for enhanced stiffness in the clubhead of the fairways for more stability.
In this model, PXG’s Precision Weighting Technology features three sole ports in the toe, heel and rear with a single 12.5g weight and two 2.5g weights interchangeable for draw or fade bias or for adding a higher launch.
They are available 3-wood (15 degrees), 4-wood (17 degrees), 5-wood (18 degrees), 7-wood (21 degrees), 9-wood (24 degrees) and 11-wood (27 degrees) options with a fully adjustable hosel.
PXG Lightning Tour Fairway Woods Specs & Design
The Lightning Tour Fairway Wood is a more compact shape than the standard model and suited to better golfers wanting shot shaping capabilities.
The clubhead has a shorter overall size from front to back and is also taller in the face with a more rounded shape that favours workability, shot shaping, lower launch and a penetrating flight.
The Tour model has a thinner face than previous versions and delivers explosive ball speeds, while the Progressive Face Geometry helps with accuracy and a tighter overall dispersion.
A Laser-Etched Face design is introduced into this model with micro-texturing to enhance spin control and shot stability even in moist conditions.
The revised carbon fiber crown has allowed for weighting to be moved low and towards the perimeter weighting to lower the CG and increase MOI.
The Lightning Tour model features two weight ports on the sole with forward and back positions for a heavy 10-12.5g weight and a 2.5g light weights interchangeable to alter setup, trajectory and spin levels.
The Tour model is only available in 3-wood (15 degrees) and 5-wood (18 degrees) options.
PXG Lightning Woods Review: Are they any good?
The PXG Lightning fairway woods and been designed to live up their name, and they well and truly provide improvements in ball speed.
It isn’t just about these being the fastest and as a result longest because they also offer forgiveness from the standard model and amazing workability from the Tour.
An interesting new addition is lofts up to 11-wood (27 degrees) in the standard Lightning to give plenty of options for golfers who struggle with their long irons.
