Android 16 QPR1 beta officially introduces Advanced Protection mode

Google is officially rolling out the Advanced Protection mode with the new Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1. After months of leaks and rumors, the significant security feature is finally live for users with various data protection tools and capabilities.

If you are someone who often needs assurance for your device’s data and can’t trust anonymous protections apps/tools, then Advanced Protection mode is perfect for you.

Telegram account user @AyushmaanT found that Google is releasing the Advanced Protection feature to its users via the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 update.

It is generally a “one-tap” toggle that enables various security settings on your device without harming your privacy or stealing any confidential details from the phone.

But note that once enabled, you can’t adjust the individual security settings in the device. This change might sound confusing to some users. Though the company will continue to upgrade this feature with the upcoming Android 16 versions.

Coming back to the feature, Advanced Protection safeguards your device from security threats like sideloading, USB data access, and more. Some of the Advanced Protection features include the following:

  • Device Theft: Safeguards the lost, stolen, or confiscated devices
  • Apps: Protects against memory bugs and unsafe apps
  • Network & Wi-Fi: Prevents insecure connections
  • Web: Protects against unsafe websites
  • Phone by Google: Protects against spam calls
  • Google Messages: Protects against scams and spam

While these settings have existed in Android for a long time, they will now work perfectly under the Advanced Protection mode. Firstly, they won’t turn on automatically. Secondly, after enabling the Advanced Protection toggle, you can’t adjust these settings, which will keep your data safe.

To access this feature, users can go to Settings and select the Personal & Device Safety section. Now, search for the Advanced Protection page and turn on the toggle for the “Device Protection” tool.
