Upcoming Honor mid-range device to get 6-year software support, Android 16

Honor has quietly promised 6-year software update support alongside the Android 16 upgrade for its upcoming mid-range device – the Honor 400 series. Perhaps, the new smartphone lineup will bring amazing surprises for its consumers.

While Google has just launched the Android 16 QPR1 Beta, Honor already confirmed the major upgrade for its upcoming digital series. At the same time, it promised to deliver six years of software updates to the new Honor 400 smartphones.

Notebookcheck talked with Honor at a press conference where the OEM said that the upcoming mid-range device will get 6-year software update support.

On the flip side, the company announced that the Honor 400 series will get the Android 16 major upgrade by the end of this year. Despite being a budget-friendly handset, the new-gen digital series will receive flagship-level software benefits.

Simply put, Honor 400 series will come out of the box with Android 15 and will continue to receive Android-based MagicOS updates till 2030. Looks like the company is catching up with Samsung’s six years of updates for the Galaxy A56.

It is unclear how many major Android OS updates will count under the 6 years of Android support. Either these rollouts could only be related to the security patches, or they may include two major Android software upgrades.

Honor also suggested that the Magic 7 Pro and V3 foldable will also join the stable Android 16 batch by the end of this year. Hence, keep your devices up-to-date with the latest versions.

Android 16 will go official in June. Google is currently rolling out the first QPR1 Beta for the new software version to Pixel phones. Although a stable build for non-Pixel devices is expected to roll out in Q3 or Q4 this year.
