Huawei could use the Kirin 8020 5G for its upcoming mid-range foldable smartphone, Nova Flip 2. The company has many more products to launch this year. Perhaps it will continue to power them with existing chips, followed by certain improvements.
According to a tipster, Huawei will focus on meeting the needs of HarmonyOS 4.2 and 4.3 users this year. Thus, it may not offer major upgrades for its future devices.
The Weibo blogger further reveals that the upcoming devices like Pocket 2 Premium Edition, Nova Flip 2, and the 2nd tri-fold smartphone will likely use minor core (Kirin chip) upgrades. These will continue to use already available chipsets.
For instance, the Pocket 2 Premium version may come with a Kirin 9020A processor. The company’s customer service revealed that the device will offer 15% improved performance over the P50 Pocket. [Read the full story HERE]

On the other hand, the company could use the Kirin 8020 5G chip for its next-gen mid-range foldable smartphone – Huawei Nova Flip 2. The device is seemingly in the making and may debut in August, just like the previous generation model.
Huawei introduced Nova Flip foldable to cover the mid-range smartphone market. Starting at 5288 yuan, the device brings significant features like cute pet themes, fun AI features for the cover screen, an appealing design, and a powerful hinge.
It debuted with a mid-range Kirin 8000 chip, which has the following CPU configuration:
- 1 large core @ 2.40GHz
- 3 medium cores @ 2.18GHz
- 4 small cores @ 1.84GHz
As of now, the company is allegedly working on the Nova Flip 2 model that may bring Kirin 8020. The chip has already debuted with the Nova 14 Ultra with a 1+3+4 (CPU configuration): 1 super core @ 2.28GHz + 3 medium cores @ 2.05GHz + 4 small cores @ 1.3GHz.
Huawei will also use the HarmonyOS 5.0 stable version as a major upgrade for the Nova Flip 2 foldable. Other changes are currently unknown, though we may find them in the coming days.
