Huawei Mate XT gets first HarmonyOS 5.0 closed beta update


Huawei Mate XT is now receiving its first HarmonyOS 5.0 closed beta with a set of new features and enhancements. The company has added a massive changelog to the latest update, improving every part of the device, including the user interface.

Up to this point, Huawei has served HarmonyOS 5 closed and public beta to its top-tier handsets. For instance, the Mate 70, Pura 70, Mate 60, Mate X6/X5, and Pocket 2.

The company even distributed the new build to the mid-range smartphones Nova 13 and 12 series. Although the stable version is only available to Pura X at present.

Perhaps the OEM will soon launch the stable HarmonyOS 5.0 for its eligible devices. Ahead of that, the tech giant is bringing the first HarmonyOS 5.0 closed beta update for the Huawei Mate XT. Let’s take a look at the new update’s changelog.

Mate XT is getting its first HarmonyOS 5.0 update with version 5.0.0.160. It is rolling out to those who have successfully registered in the closed beta program.

Speaking of the features, Huawei has added new changes to the interface as well as the device’s efficiency. Tri-fold phone users will experience easier media sharing, smart photo suggestions, AI writing, and better app security.

Apps will no longer access camera, mic, and location info unless users permit them. If it happens, a small indicator will light up at the left corner of the screen. You can check more features in the changelog below.

  • UI: Introduced lighting effects inspired by the surroundings and spatial design based on circular and symmetrical aesthetics, giving the entire user interface a new look.
  • Efficiency: Click the icon on the left of the lock screen live view to see running, cycling, and navigation routes, and you can also read lyrics while listening to songs. You can log in to apps with a Huawei account in one click, which is fast and secure.
  • Audio/video broadcasting: The broadcast control center can control audio and video playback, and can also broadcast audio and video to the big screen (via apps).
  • Connectivity: Smartphones, Tablets, and other devices logged in to the same Huawei account can connect easily by just bringing them close. App tasks can continue between different devices without any interruption.
  • Interoperability: One can use a tablet to access the gallery, camera, and scan features of the phone with the same Huawei account, allowing you to control multiple devices as smoothly as one device.
  • Huawei Share: Touch your head to share images, videos, and WLAN. It also supports multi-person sharing. Thus, you can share with many people at the same time.

Smart Celia Features

  • Celia: A new Celia navigation bar appears at the bottom of the screen. You can long press on the bar to wake up Celia or drag text, images, and docs to the bar for intelligent processing.
  • Smart Photo suggestions: When you need to upload your ID, the phone will smartly suggest ID photos from the gallery.
  • Smart Fill: Users can smartly fill in their previously used contacts, ID numbers, addresses, and other information while shopping or buying tickets.
  • Celia Writing: Click on the Celia star ring icon in the memo toolbar to summarize, polish, and format the memo content.

Privacy & Security

  • Security access: Restricts apps from accessing text messages, reading the list of installed apps, and other permissions. Only grant apps one-time access to data such as the camera, gallery, and address book.
  • Privacy/Security: From counting the number of times an app accesses the camera and microphone to counting the duration of access, the app’s behavior is now more transparent.
  • Privacy Light: When an app accesses the camera, mic, or location, an indicator light or an icon will light up in the upper right corner of the screen to remind you.
  • File encryption: Encrypt files before sharing. Only authorized users can access the shared files.

  • Smoothness: Improved memory usage efficiency, makes multi-tasking operations smoother, and provides a smoother dynamic experience.
