Huawei will take a major “open-source” step for its self-developed Cangjie programming language. The company will make the codes available to the public by the end of this month, following the route of self-sufficiency in the technological world.
Open-source refers to a process that allows everyone to access a software or its programming source code. Even third-party developers can alter or share their fixes, features, internal framework, or expand their functionalities.
Recently, the company opened up two of its Pangu AI models, favoring its global expansion. Now it is seemingly the turn of its in-house programming language.
During the HarmonyOS 5.0 Developer Beta event, Huawei announced its homegrown programming language, called Cangjie. It surpassed 11000 apps in half a month and initiated a special beta pool, calling out users to test the language.
The company reveals that the Huawei programming language will go open-source on July 30. Hereafter, it will be available to all the first and third-party developers.
Huawei is taking these steps to overcome its dependence on US products. It has developed the language last year, but may bring it into major use after 2025.
Cangjie is full of native artificial intelligence and powerful security. It is also used for many suitable and a wide range of applications. Interestingly, the language can support apps on Android and iOS, challenging Java and Swift.
Whether the company will make some more changes to its self-developed programming language before the open-source category, or keep it as it is to fight against Java and Swift languages.
