Huawei unlikely to upgrade old MateBook devices with HarmonyOS PC

Huawei was expected to bless its MateBook devices with a HarmonyOS PC rollout, similar to phones and tablets. But it looks like that won’t be the case. Perhaps the new software will be confined only to the upcoming notebooks and PCs.

A new input reveals that Huawei is busy improving its first computer-based software system. The company is adopting dynamic changes that can offer the best or probably the same user experience as Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS.

But the sad news is that old and existing MateBook devices will not get the HarmonyOS PC upgrade, unlike Huawei smartphones, which get a new HarmonyOS version.

Some Weibo tipsters noted that previously launched (existing) notebooks, or all-in-one PCs running other operating systems, won’t receive the upcoming HarmonyOS PC.

The company has recently unveiled some 2024 notebooks like MateBook D 16 and MateBook 14 with the Linux OS. Instead of Windows, these devices run the Linux operating system. The step implied that Huawei has ditched Microsoft’s OS completely and can upgrade its old MateBook devices with the new one.

But it is unlikely to happen. Huawei may launch HarmonyOS PC with new notebooks and continue to pre-install it in future notebooks instead of upgrading older devices.

Based on the previous launches, the company may upgrade its previous PCs with the Linux software system. The accuracy of the current information is still doubtful. Hence, let’s wait for the official announcement and a roadmap on this matter.

Just like HarmonyOS NEXT, the PC-based software aims to deliver a safer, smarter, and smoother user experience. The company may bring new AI tools to better manage meetings, writing, file sharing, note-taking, and more.

Huawei has confirmed to unveil its first computer-dedicated HarmonyOS PC software in May. It will likely bring major enhancements in office work and performance.

As per early rumors, HarmonyOS PC is under the public beta development phase at present. Huawei hasn’t revealed the exact date to introduce its new software product. Perhaps, we may get the details in the coming weeks.
