Huawei Watch 5 grabs smart car key and new gestures with HarmonyOS 5.1
Huawei is rolling out a new update for the Watch 5 wearable with the latest HarmonyOS 5.1 version. The company has seeded many interesting features and changes to the new firmware. Users will also get support for smart car keys in this update.
Watch 5 is the first wearable to land on the ground with HarmonyOS 5.1. It introduces many significant software capabilities, making the wearable experience more efficient.
According to the changelog, Huawei Watch 5 is receiving the HarmonyOS 5.1 update with the 5.1.0.110 version. It packs several features related to the Pura 80 series, Huawei earphones, smart car digital keys, and some other useful additions.
The most important add-on is the smart car digital key support. The Watch 5 can let you unlock your electric sedan using Nearlink Digital Key, NFC car keys, and Bluetooth sensorless car keys. It also supports UWB keys but only for the 46mm variant.
On the other hand, the company has added many new interesting tools for the device, like a fall detection/SOS emergency feature, smart gestures for timer control, a voice memo app, Alipay screen-off one-touch payment mode, and more.

HarmonyOS 5.1 Feature Update
Pairing with Huawei Pura 80 supports:
- The watch control center can synchronously control the music and video playback of the smartphone control center.
- When the phone is stationary and taking photos, it can smartly trigger the watch to take photos remotely. Users can preview the camera image on the watch.
- Supports sync of sleep mode, do not disturb mode, and other modes.
Pairing with Huawei earbuds:
- The watch supports features like adjusting the headphone volume, switching the noise reduction mode, and searching for the earbuds.

- Support Star Flash Digital Key
- Support UWB sensorless car key (only supported by the 46mm variant)
- Support Bluetooth sensorless car keys
- Support NFC car keys
Other features include:
- Support Alipay screen-off payment, you can pay with one touch even when the screen is off.
- Added a voice memo application to quickly record voice notes
- Smart gestures now support timer control and optimize gesture operation tutorials.
- Optimize the user experience of hypertension risk management.
- Added fall detection and SOS emergency help features, and supports home space location sharing. Through the home space in the sports health app, you can view your family’s heart rate, blood oxygen, daily steps, sleep quality, micro-physical examination reports, and other health data.
- Optimize the fingertip blood oxygen measurement dynamic effect and interface.
- The heart rate application has been completely upgraded, adding new data such as HRV (Heart Rate Variability), exercise heart rate, recovery heart rate, etc.
- Added the health summary app, which comprehensively analyzes multi-dimensional data such as heart health and sleep scenarios, and health trend changes are clear at a glance.
