Nvidia reportedly acknowledges Huawei’s progress in computing and AI tech

Nvidia has reportedly praised how Huawei is taking small yet notable steps in AI and computing tech. The U.S. chipmaker’s statement has come when foreign authorities imposed tougher chip controls and blocked the flow of H20 chips to China.

According to sources, Nvidia recently emphasized that Huawei has performed very well in computing and network tech to boost AI growth in China. The firm stressed how China is still behind the U.S in the technology segment, but ‘the gap is small.’

The CEO of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, says that Huawei is one of the most powerful companies in the world. The Chinese OEM has been a tough rival to Nvidia in the AI chips race in China, making the market very dynamic and very competitive.

On the flip side, he added that over time, Huawei has made great progress in the AI segment. The company has significantly improved its computing and network power to promote the growth of AI in the Chinese market. Jensen mentioned:

“They have performed very well in the fields of computing and network technology, which are necessary capabilities to promote the development of artificial intelligence. They have made great progress in the past few years.”

Huawei’s leaps in AI

In the past couple of years, Huawei has taken major steps to improve its AI segment. The company not only introduced new AI processors but also continued its search for technologies that can help it produce better and powerful chipsets.

Ascend 910C and the upcoming Ascend 910D are the perfect examples in this case. The former is about to enter the “mass shipment” lane, while the latter is still in the development phase and may soon hit the Chinese market.

The company has also started delivering the AI chip cluster, CloudMatrix 384 which is said to defeat Nvidia’s NVL72 technology in computing power.

Concluding the talk, the Nvidia CEO said that even though Huawei is progressing in AI, we are very close. “Remember, this is a long, never-ending race.”
