The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna
A tender-hearted witch. A handsome, grumpy librarian. A loyal found family. Witchy kids in need of mentorship. A magical coastal estate. Be still, my beating heart! I was told I would love this book and did I ever. I’m pretty sure I picked this up when I needed a hug in the form of a book and that’s exactly how I’d describe this summer 2022 release.
The story follows Mika Moon, British witch and social media influencer, who chafes against the secrecy of life as a witch imposed by the community and especially her guardian, who happens to be a leader in said community. So it’s with great trepidation and curiosity that Mika accepts a teaching position at Nowhere House from someone who’s discovered her true identity as a real witch, not just a rando pretending to be a witch for socials. At Nowhere House, she comes into friendship, family, and an undisclosed complication she didn’t bargain for. But who can focus on her students’ mysteriously absent guardian and some unwelcome surprises when the house’s alluring, grumpy protector and librarian is around to distract Mika? Mika is determined to gain Jamie’s trust, help the kids harness their power, and maybe figure out what the heck the estate’s caretakers are hiding.
