Surprisingly Good New Horror Movie Additions on Tubi

There are roughly five billion horror films in which some innocent teen is chased down and murdered by a slasher. It’s a solid staple of the genre, beloved by many fans. However, some films choose to go in the other direction, giving their characters a bit more autonomy. Below, you’ll find our top picks where the characters start out as prey—but ultimately turn the tables on the not-so-scary bad guy.

Hard Candy

Hard Candy is a delightful little film about manipulation and revenge. Elliot Page (Juno) plays a young woman who has been pulled into a pedophile’s web of lies. She visits his home and allows him to offer her alcohol while being very flirtatious. However, this young girl is not the prey he believes her to be.

Before he gets a chance to take any racy pictures of her, the man awakens to find himself tied to a chair and at the whim of a young girl on a path of revenge. Hard Candy is a brilliant slow-burn horror that shows the internet can be dangerous in unexpected ways.

Ready Or Not

This horror comedy stands out for its use of sight gags and slapstick humor. Ready or Not follows a young woman who is set to marry an heir to a very wealthy gaming company. However, on the night of their wedding, she is forced to play a game with the family as an initiation.

While she initially thinks this is all fun and games, she soon realizes the family intends to kill her to fulfill a ritual. Luckily for her, our bride is not easy prey. She takes the fight to them and kills off the family in increasingly hilarious ways. Ready or Not features great kills and is a must-see for horror fans.

The Devil’s Rejects

One of Rob Zombie’s (Halloween) best films, The Devil’s Rejects, picks up right where House of 1000 Corpses leaves off. We see the Firefly Family living in their destitute home surrounded by filth and corpses. However, the cops are finally on their tail and raid the house, killing one of the members and arresting the mother.

The Devil’s Rejects is an interesting film from a morality perspective. Who exactly is the prey or the hunter is constantly shifting. There are no good characters in the film, outside of the victims. However, it is interesting to see these vile hunters being tracked down by something filled with an equal amount of murderous rage.

From Dusk Till Dawn

This classic horror film has an all-star cast and is one of the most unique vampire films of its era. From Dusk Till Dawn follows two brothers on the run from the cops. Needing a hostage to get across the border, they abduct an ex-preacher and his two children. While this follows a classic thriller formula, the film takes a hard right turn once the group gets into Mexico.

Ready to celebrate their victory over the United States Government, the group settles in at a local trucker bar to have a few drinks. Unbeknownst to them, this bar is home to a group of ruthless vampires who quickly to our bank robbers into tonight’s prey. From Dusk Till Dawn shows it’s age a bit now but is still a solid choice for any horror fan.

Becky

Here’s a question. What is stronger, Nazi ideology or teenage angst? Becky answers this question fairly quickly. After Becky’s home is taken over by Nazis she does the only appropriate action, she begins to kill them all.

The film serves as a warning to never underestimate the power of an angry young girl. Becky features some amazing kill scenes and is perfect for those who love blood and gore. It also has a bunch of dead Nazis, and who doesn’t love that.
