Google releases Calendar for Apple Watch, but discontinues Keep

Google Calendar is now available on the Apple Watch, but the company has discounted Keep, its dedicated note-taking app for the smartwatch.

Google Calendar v25.24.1 for iOS has been updated with support for the Apple Watch. Be sure you have the latest version by clicking “Update” on the Calendar’s App Store page. If you don’t see this option, you already have the latest version.

You may need to manually install the Apple Watch component after updating the app on your iPhone. Open the companion Watch app on your iPhone and select the “My Watch” tab. If the app is unlisted in the “Installed on Apple Watch” section, scroll down to the “Available Apps” section and tap “Install” next to “Google Calendar.”

Google Calendar is now on your wrist

Google Calendar for Apple Watch lets you view upcoming events for the next week in a list format, with Google Tasks integrated. You can tap a task card for details like the event title, time, location, and so forth.

Google Calendar also brings two complications for your watch face and the Smart Stack. The first, titled “What’s next,” shows upcoming appointments in a circular or rectangular layout. You can tap a complication to open the event within the app. The second complication, labeled “Today’s date,” only shows the current day and time.

As of now, the app doesn’t support adding new events and tasks. For that, you’ll need to use the iPhone and iPad versions of Calendar.

Google Keep for Apple Watch is no longer available

Google has also discontinued a native Apple Watch app for Keep, its free note-taking service. As of v2.2025.26200, the watchOS component is no longer available.

The removal of the watchOS component doesn’t affect the functionality in the iPhone and iPad versions of Calendar. Google has probably concluded that competing with a native Apple Notes app coming with the watchOS 26 software this fall makes no sense, so it has discontinued the Apple Watch app because Keep for Google’s Wear OS platform remains available.

On the other hand, it’s Google’s fault because Keep for watchOS hasn’t received new features for years. For example, Keep has never supported complications, one of the essential Apple Watch features that nearly all apps support.

Where did my Apple Watch apps go?

Google currently provides dedicated Apple Watch apps for Maps, Calendar and YouTube Music. Other major developers have discontinued native watchOS apps over limited engagement, including the biggest players like Google, Amazon, Slack, Facebook Messenger, Uber, Twitter and others.

On the other hand, some developers continue investing in Apple Watch apps; Snap recently released an Apple Watch app that lets you respond to snaps using standard Apple Watch capabilities such as the onscreen keyboard, the Scribble feature, voice dictation and emoji. Before the native watchOS app was released, you could only receive Snapchat messages on your wrist routed from your paired iPhone, but not reply from the watch.
