Apple just rolled out the second developer beta of iOS 26, packed with bug fixes and performance improvements. But beyond the usual polish, this update quietly reveals something much bigger—a possible all-new iPhone model. And all signs point to the long-rumored iPhone 17 Air, expected to launch this fall.
Clownfish Wallpaper Reveals a Clue
According to a report by Macworld, Apple included a version of its iconic clownfish wallpaper in the new beta, rendered at 420 x 912 @3x, or 1260 x 2736 pixels. That screen resolution doesn’t match any current iPhone on the market. However, it closely aligns with early leaks surrounding the iPhone 17 Air, which is rumored to introduce a new size to the lineup.
It Matches Kuo’s Prediction—Almost Exactly
Respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously predicted that the iPhone 17 Air would feature a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of approximately 1260 x 2740. That’s nearly identical to the resolution discovered in iOS 26 Beta 2. It’s a strong indicator that this wallpaper was tailor-made for the ultra-slim device.
Ultra-Slim Design, Big Ambitions
Apple is reportedly planning to discontinue the iPhone Plus model and introduce the iPhone 17 Air in its place. This sleek new phone will slot between the standard iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro, offering a balanced screen size with a super-thin profile—just 5.5mm thick, according to leaks.
The iPhone 17 Air may also be the first to showcase Apple’s in-house C1 modem, expected to improve connectivity and reduce dependence on Qualcomm. In addition, it could feature a minimalist single-lens rear camera, further reinforcing its slim and lightweight appeal.
The iPhone 17 Air Is Likely Real—And Coming Soon
While whispers of a slim iPhone have circulated for months, this new clue from iOS 26 Beta 2 adds serious credibility. Apple clearly built something to match that screen size. And with the full iPhone 17 lineup expected in September alongside the official iOS 26 release, we won’t have to wait long to find out.
Apple may be ushering in a new era of sleek, thin smartphones with the iPhone 17 Air. If the rumors hold true, this could become the go-to model for users who want style and portability, without sacrificing display size.
