Cue the stabbing electrical chords. A movie based on the famous Doris Bither haunting is getting a re-interpretation. If you don’t know who that is, a 1982 movie called The Entity starring Barbara Hershey was also based on that paranormal case. That film was an adaptation of a book by Frank De Felitta.
Now Deadline is reporting that Insidious and Paranormal Activity producer Steven Schneider is getting behind a new version of that story called Entity Within starring Heather Graham.
“Set in 1974 suburban Los Angeles, a single mother is violently attacked by an unseen force in her home. With no one believing her, she turns to a team of paranormal researchers, leading to one of the most documented and disturbing supernatural cases in U.S. history.”
The original film has become a cult classic, and despite it’s cookoo third reel, is an effective haunter that still sends chills down people’s spine. Its non-coporeal sexaul assault scenes remain shocking over 40 years later.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Heather Graham again and partnering with Nick Simon to bring Entity Within to Cannes,” said Anthony Buckner, of Alliance Media Partners (AMP). “This is a high-concept, emotionally resonant horror film that we’re excited to share with international buyers.”
Despite it’s cultural standing the original, directed by Sidney J. Furie has been elusive on the digital streaming market. On physical media, it’s highest quality upgrade to date has only been on Blu-ray.
