Seattle family seeks justice after fatal hit-and-run

A Seattle family seeks a motorcyclist involved in a fatal hit-and-run.

SEATTLE — A south Seattle family is looking for a motorcyclist they’re calling a murderer.

The rider is suspected of killing a woman and hitting her husband while they were crossing an intersection last week.

“I have never ever thought about that my wife would pass away just like this,” said Xing Chen.

KING 5 spoke with Chen and his daughter Shelly. They’re reflecting on how the rock of their family, 57-year-old Min Huang, is no longer with them.

“My wife was trying to protect me,” said Chen.

Video captured the hit-and-run from last Friday night along Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Alaska Street. In the video you can see a red motorcycle at the light driving southbound on MLK Jr. Way South. The video shows the rider hits the throttle, darts into the intersection and hits Chen and Min while they were in the crosswalk.

“He didn’t even slow down as he hit us,” said Chen. “In fact, he was speeding up and trying to flee the scene. He’s really the same as a murderer.”

Chen said his wife pulled him just in time so he wouldn’t get hit directly. Instead, she took the brunt of the collision.

“I was screaming very loudly,” said Chen. “I said, ‘my wife, my wife!'”

The couple was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Chen’s spine and right knee were injured.
As for Min, she died on Sunday from her injuries.

“I don’t really care about myself,” said Chen. “She has to be alive. She’s more important than myself.”

Seattle police are investigating the hit-and-run while the family continues to mourn and hope the motorcyclist is caught so this doesn’t happen to someone else.

“I still cannot imagine that I already lost my wife,” said Chen. “Every time I come in the house, all I can think of is I lost my wife.”

If you have any information on who the motorcyclist is you’re asked to call 911.

The Chen family started a fundraiser to help pay for funeral costs, medical bills and, eventually, offer a reward for anyone who helps police arrest the motorcyclist responsible for the hit-and-run.
