State Route 510 closed in Thurston County after a culvert failure prompted WSDOT to address safety concerns.
LACEY, Wash. — State Route 510 closed Thursday evening in Thurston County after a culvert failed under the roadway.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) closed both directions of the roadway near milepost 6 between Old Pacific Highway Southeast and Rockcress Drive Southeast, which is southeast of Lacey. WSDOT said there were safety concerns with keeping the roadway open before the culvert could be repaired.
WSDOT said it is “getting a game plan” to repair the culvert, but there is no estimated time for reopening.
The agency said the failure wasn’t due to deferred proactive maintenance. It said due to increasing and declining culvert conditions, there is little maintenance crews can do to prevent future failures.
During the closure, drivers should plan for delays and take alternate routes.
