The Spierig Brothers Are Rehashing An Old Classic With “Headless”

Headless monsters have fascinated moviegoers for a long time now. After all, how do you kill something with no brain? The most famous of these stories is, of course, the tale of Ichabod Crane and his run-in with the Headless Horsemen. This tale has been adapted countless times with middling success.

However, the Spierig brothers (Jigsaw) have decided to take this classic tale into the modern age with their new film Headless. According to a report from Deadline, the film will take influence from Mad Max and The Terminator. Here is the official synopsis for the film.

“A rudderless hitchhiker and a driven woman avenging her family’s death must stop a motorcycle-riding semi-immortal ghoul that feeds off the carnage it causes on desert highways by decapitating it and getting its head far enough away, long enough, from its relentlessly pursuant still-living body.”

Headless

Considering the source material, this may be the wackiest iteration of the Headless Horseman ever created. This blood soaked tale is being presented to buyers at the Cannes Croisette this week. Headless is written by Shane Armstrong (The Contents) and S.P. Krause (The Darkness). Production for the film is expected to take place in Australia this year.

Will Headless improve upon the Tale of the Headless Horseman or become just another flash in the pan? Either way, it is probably time to brush up on your Headless Horseman lore. While there are many films to choose from, Sleepy Hollow is a delightful tale that the whole family can enjoy.
