TL;DR

My sister made this simple garlic Greek yogurt sauce at a cookout, which she adapted from a sour cream Thermomix recipe. I thought it was a great all-rounder sauce.

I adapted it from her version, she also adds curry powder (more version ideas after the recipe card).

Use it as a dip with grilled meats, as a kebab sauce, or as a salad dressing. The possibilities are endless.

Ingredient Notes

  • Greek Yogurt — I prefer thicker Greek yogurt (if available) because we add vinegar to the sauce. You can also strain your Greek yogurt to make it extra thick, just like in my labneh dip.
  • Dijon Mustard — Adds a lot of flavor! Try with homemade whole-grain mustard or with flavored French mustard pastes for a change.
  • Vinegar — I like white wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar might be to flavorful. Distilled vinegar or rice vinegar is an option too.
  • Garlic, fresh
  • Salt & Black Pepper
  • Sugar
  • Chives, fresh

Variation Ideas

As mentioned at the beginning, my sister makes this recipe with a dash of curry powder to add flavor and some color.

You can also add the following other ingredients to your sauce (not all at once):

  • Fresh parsley or cilantro.
  • Fresh dill to serve with seafood and fish.
  • Turmeric powder (to make it yellow).
  • Everything Bagel Seasoning, sprinkled over the sauce.
  • A few drops of sriracha sauce or another hot sauce to add heat.

Serving

We love this sauce as a dipping sauce with grilled meats and vegetables, such as steak, grilled chicken, brats, ribs, and skewers.

You can prepare a Middle Eastern kebab wrap (or similar, as in döner or shawarma) with this sauce or make it for your shish kebab or think wraps.

Your Greek yogurt garlic sauce works great with fish and seafood as well.

I have also used this sauce as a creamy salad dressing with tomatoes, avocado, and sweet corn.

Storing

You can prep this sauce in advance and store it in an airtight container in your fridge.

The sauce keeps well for about 5-7 days with fresh yogurt. Check the date on the label of your Greek yogurt.
