What makes this mushroom pizza so easy
When it comes to pizza night, I don’t like to overcomplicate things. I want pizza fast, but I also like more upscale pizzas with elevated flavors.
This recipe meets that mark because it uses fresh varietal mushrooms with some pre-made ingredients.
And the best part is that you don’t have to pre-cook the mushrooms. Because this pizza is drizzled with an herbaceous olive oil, the mushrooms are soft and tender and packed with flavor.

-
Heat Grill: Heat your grill or pizza oven to 450-500F degrees. If using a Ninja FlexFlame, add the pizza stone to the grill. Set the function to grill/pizza and the temperature to 450F.
-
Chop: Place the mushrooms on a cutting board and slice or chop.
-
Make Drizzle: In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, Italian seasoning, salt and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
-
Flour: Dust a pizza peel with flour. Stretch out the dough and place on the peel. Wiggle it to make sure it has enough flour to slide off.
-
Sauce: Use the back of a spoon to spread sauce all over the dough, leaving about a 1/2 inch border for the crust.
-
Top: Add the shredded cheese and mushrooms evenly on top of the sauce. Drizzle the herbed olive oil on top.
-
Bake: Transfer the pizza to your preheated grill or oven. It will take 7-10 minutes to cook. You want the crust and cheese to be golden and bubbly.
-
Slice: Remove from the grill. Slice and serve.
For a finishing touch, consider adding parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes and chopped green onions.

Ingredients

- Mushrooms: For the most robust flavor, use a combination of different types of mushrooms. I like cremini, shiitake and oyster mushrooms. Others that are tasty include button mushrooms, portobello mushrooms and chanterelle.
- Pizza Dough: Feel free to make your own. As a time saver, you can also buy a dough ball in the deli section of your grocery store. Or look for pizza crust dough in the refrigerator section near the biscuits.
- Alfredo Sauce: Save yourself time and just buy the premade sauce either in the spaghetti sauce section or the refrigerated pasta section.
- Fresh Garlic
- Olive Oil
- Italian Seasoning
- Kosher Salt
- Red Pepper Flakes
SUBSTITUTIONS: Feel free to use different cheeses if you like. Fontina cheese and goat cheese are great options. In place of the Italian seasoning, you can also use minced fresh herbs.

Frequently Asked Questions
You absolutely can cook the mushrooms in a large skillet with butter or olive oil, but you don’t need to. When I worked at Little Caesar’s as a teen, we always put raw mushrooms on the pizza. By drizzling olive oil on top before it bakes, the mushrooms will be tender and juicy.
Virtually any fresh mushrooms can go on a pizza. Button, crimini and portobello mushrooms can be found in most grocery stores. For more variety, look for oyster and shiitake mushrooms.
Use your favorite pizza sauce. Mushroom pizza can be made with tomato sauce, white sauce like Alfredo or a simple drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil. Personally, I like it with white sauce.
