I have a friend at the gym, Glen, who is renowned for his peacock attire. The glasses match the outfit, and the outfit is always loud enough to embarrass a peacock. His demeanor, however, is beautiful, kind, and friendly as it gets. He is a “praise Jesus” kind of guy. I am too, just a little less flashy about it.
I find every now and again I need the flashy “praise Jesus” though. Glen always brings peace in scripture with him.
My wife and I saw him at the other afternoon and he was in all of his glory. And I was struggling. Perhaps he sensed it, because he came up with 105:4 – Seek the Lord and His strength… folks, he has a funny way about him, Glen does.
That was exactly what I needed at that moment. I don’t mean to be preachy here, but when they say there are no atheists in a foxhole, I spent years in a foxhole. Without God, Jesus, or a Higher Power as many call God, there’s no way I’d have climbed out of the hole I’d dug. I tried.
It was only when I stopped fighting and chose faith that I was able to surrender… and win.
Glen always happens at exactly the right moment.
