El Obelisco de Buenos Aires es un monumento histórico considerado un ícono de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, construido en 1936 con motivo del cuarto centenario de la llamada primera fundación de la ciudad por Pedro de Mendoza.
Está emplazado en la Plaza de la República, en la intersección de las avenidas Corrientes y 9 de Julio, en el barrio de San Nicolás en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.
La obra es autoría del arquitecto argentino Alberto Prebisch, la construcción estuvo a cargo del consorcio alemán GEOPÉ-Siemens Bauunion-Grün Bilfinger.
The Obelisk of Buenos Aires is a historical monument considered an icon of the city of Buenos Aires, built in 1936 on the occasion of the fourth centenary of the so-called first foundation of the city by Pedro de Mendoza.
It is located in the Plaza de la República, at the intersection of Corrientes and 9 de Julio avenues, in the neighborhood of San Nicolás in the City of Buenos Aires.
The work is authored by the Argentine architect Alberto Prebisch, the construction was in charge of the German consortium GEOPÉ-Siemens Bauunion-Grün Bilfinger.
