Rest Awhile

Rest Awhile

This week I made a decision to take a little rest from posting much. I’d already made the decision weeks ago to turn off the mainstream media – I don’t need to tell you why. Last night Marjorie and I watched another movie. We’ve seen more movies in the past few weeks than we have watched together in the past two years.

The night before last we watched a beautiful little movie I heartily recommend: "Ladies in Lavender" (2004). It stars Judy Dench and Maggie Smith (one of the greatest English actors of all time) and the story is so lovely and beautifully filmed in Cornwall.

Last night I also watched for the first time since I saw it when the film came out in 2005, "V For Vendetta". Ostensibly based on a comic series in the wake of 9/11, it was made by the Wachowski brothers, and is a truly remarkable film about freedom in the context of totalitarian society. It’s hard to find at the moment, but if you do see a copy grab it. It might just be the most prescient political film since "Wag the Dog".

So if you’re feeling stressed at the moment, do your immune system a world of good. Get out, take a walk, get some sun and fresh air (absolutely essential). This bench on our front balcony is a great place to sit and rest.
