In 1964 and 1965, one could see about anything in Wabash’s yard in North Kansas City, Missouri. The yard was switched by Lima switchers, there were E-units on the passenger trains, and freight trains brought in FM Trainmasters, F-units, Geeps, C-424s, and even Alco FA-2s. In 1964 the Wabash and the Nickel Plate were leased to the Norfolk & Western, so NKP units started to show up as well as an occasional N&W locomotive. For variety, one couldn’t beat the NKC yard at that time.
On a a cloudy April 10, 1965, Wabash FA-2s 822 and 823 stopped by for a visit. Both of these units had been acquired from the Ann Arbor Railroad and renumbered. Photo by Joe McMillan.
