I have to apologize to future and young thug for hating on them as mumble rappers when they’re authentically trap. They did at least offer substance in their lyrics and futures voice is at least his own. Carti is a horrible lyricist and his voice is god awful to listen to. I don’t see the hype. I’m fine with trap music. But a lot of trap music has provided lyrical excellence and great production. Carti offers none of this. His features did a lot of the heavy lifting. Not to mention Carti is a HORRIBLE human being. Carti just has a good producer. And he’s able to bite off of Thug’s sound and Future’s trap influence. Nothing about him is original.
I’m speaking from a perspective of someone who LOVES Hip Hop. I got love for Atlanta Artists. Shit I still think OutKast is the greatest duo of all time.
But I honestly don’t see the hype in Carti. And I’m the same age as him. Obviously different backgrounds and raised differently. But holy shit. I’ve had instances where I’ve come around to Don Toliver, Kodak Black, 21 Savage and other SoundCloud/ mumble rappers who went into trap. But I don’t see the hype in Carti.
Lyrically he’ll get eaten alive by someone like ANDERSON. PAAK. Hell WALE And CORDAE(I’m a big fan of his) would have him contemplating life if they got in a 1v1 lyrical battle. Those aren’t top tier guys. They’re just solid. Like B/B+ rappers.
I just don’t see why y’all hype Carti up like that. His Ad-lib game isn’t even on the level of Migos and 2 chainz.
