  1. EXPLANATION:

Justin Timberlake and producer Timbaland released the hit song "SexyBack" in 2006 as a single for his upcoming album.

In an exclusive interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Timberlake breaks down the origin of the song.

In this same interview, Timberlake admits to taking inspiration from David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel", while Timbaland took inspiration from the Talking Head's lead vocalist for their respective approaches to the vocals.

Timberlake, notorious for freestyling his songs, went into the booth after asking Timbaland for a track that has "as much energy" as one which Missy Elliott might perform over.

When asked how he's going to come onto the beat, JT sang the opening lines, to which Timbaland responded: "YEAH!"

Timbaland's signature "YEAH!" adlib isn't originally from this track, but it made for an unexpected addition that came about in the moment.

The song was an instant hit, making it Justin's first ever no. 1 in the Billboard Top 100 and double platinum.
