Umm Gabriela is more popular and streamed than Gnarly… it's even nominated for a grammy (Best Pop Duo/Group Performance) and peaked at 31 on the Hot 100 (Currently at 60), charting for 22 weeks and counting. IMO Given the current state of the chart and the fact there hasn't been a dominated western group in the past decade they are doing well in the US.
That being said the music definitely needs to improve.
With you on almost everything EXCEPT the Jessie Murph slander. Her older work is generally better, but she is also only 21 years old which is insane. How do you hear Heroin or The Man Who Came Back and say she can’t sing or had no emotional depth??? I also personally thought blue strips was fun af but I get that’s unpopular loll
I don’t know if you even check all of your comments but Cil had a great year she came out with an EP that personally loved and her past music is also something to die for. I think you should really check her out
i'm SOOO glad you criticised the please please please remix without hating on dolly! everyone online was SO rude to her and i'm like…do you understand who you're talking about? imo one of the greatest songwriters and artists ever??? you respect my queen and its just another reason why swiftologist is always right 😍
I love love LOOOVE Eli's music so happy to see her get her 10s but an omission here for me was Pinkpantheress "Tonight" was the song of the summer I needed "Stateside" also a banger the EP was so fun. I just love her whole image its so cute and fun
I agree, Father Figure is one if not the BEST track on Showgirl, the story, lyrics and melody is just so good. Honestly it's a good candidate to be a Track 5 because the person you saw as a father figure betraying you is SUPER personal (Like how my tears ricochet was a track 5). It's definitely on it's way to be a single for the album probably after Elizabeth Taylor and Opalite become singles.
i think pops just in a weird place because there's a lot of artists who are trying to find their sound right now, and they keep looking in the worst places (i.e. alex warrens terrible dad pop). i'd argue that lola young, renee rapp, katseye, and alex warren are all kinda in this space.
You mentioned Marina! Okay I have to agree slightly with you- I don't like a lot of the lyrics and they feel very simple and repetitive. BUT, this was still my favorite album by the sheer fact it was a She-Ra concept album. Play the title track back again. YEAH!! HELL YEAH!! Pretty sure Hello Kitty was a Princess Prom moment, I clap and cheer for it even if I don't like the words. "going in for the kill like I'm ready to die" was a bar though, and completly wraps up what the character she's writing about represents.
Happy new year diva. Your channel is god tier: well researched, educated, not messy, and FUNNY. I often listen to your videos on a walk / but then also re-watch for the visual delivery.
I think the increasingly worse economic disparity across all OECD countries has the fabric of social cohesion collapsing in real time and is being reflected everywhere, including here
I will die on this hill. Any person who hates Addison Rae are the real fake ones, or the ones who are stagnant in terms of character growth (that's why they haters). They can't accept the fact that Addison evolved as a person and as an artist and still remained who she is at her core.
She's still the bubbly, effervescent Addison Rae. She's still a ray of sunshine and now so mature and experienced so much from life because of the fame she gained from tiktok and even outside of it (haters will never agree to this but there are people who know Addison Rae outside of tiktok), she also matured and evolved as a person because of the hate and she never let the hate get to her (and haters also HATE that. boo hoo, haters…)
On Reputations “New Years Day” she says “I want your midnights, but I’ll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Years Day”. She 100% named their initial breakup album Midnights after this line. She’s way too smart not to have planned this. She wanted his midnights, she didn’t get them, so she wrote about it. Incredible.
I'm gonna say that this year was good for pop music, actually, but the good pop music didn't get POPULAR.
The artists from 500k – 5mil monthly stream area are giving us some absolutely amazing pop pieces, and most importantly – bangers. You can even see these people on this list with Eli, Rachel Chinouriri, Audrey Hobert.
So yeah, go check out that Slayyyter album at the start of 2026 or whenever it releases, it sets up to be massive.
The way I put it regarding artists like Benson Boone and Alex Warren is something like, "they're cut from the same boring cloth". I used to say this about James Morrison and The Script
HI ZAC!! Always love your work ^^ I was curious about your thoughts on Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack 🤔 I know that it is K-Pop, but I'd still love to hear your thoughts on it! I personally think that most of the songs are very catchy and just a good bop However they are egregiously overplayed which always undermines the quality of any song. My local radio station can never stop playing Golden, which starts to make it incredibly annoying, and muddles whatever objective thoughts I would have had over the song Hope you have a good new years and an incredible 2026!!!
Eternal sunshine is such a good album, very overshadowed by the controversy in her private life.
It’s like Elizabeth Taylor who missed out on an Oscar for her role in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, because she was persona non-grata for having an affair. She won the next year for a crap film she hated (Butterball 8) – essentially her “make up” Oscar when she was more acceptable to the public again.

Sad to see hate on an amazing young artist Lola Young… sounds like you haven’t listened to any of her songs besides One Thing
I love Marina, I'm one of her ten fans, but I have to say that her last album was BAD. So disapointing!!
why even bother listening to Justin Bieber's attempt at religious music, when Lux by Rosalía exists..?
Yes, I totally agree about Katseye! These girls need better music and they can sing!!

No Zara Larsson or Lily Allen? 👎
No Lily Allen or Kesha mention? 🥺

Twilight Zone is excellent
If you wouldve talked about other genres I wouldve said a matter of time by laufey should be mentionned
I think the increasingly worse economic disparity across all OECD countries has the fabric of social cohesion collapsing in real time and is being reflected everywhere, including here
No, no. We need the marina video I'd love that
I have only ever heard Primadonna but I would be very interested in a "how to murder your career (Marina's Version)"

Man’s best friend is so good though lol
lol love how the video preview pic has changed 3 times…. 😂
Rachel Chinouriri really deserved her breakout this year but I know 2026 has GOT to be her year

Could you make a Conan Gray video plsss. We know that you don’t like his music but pls make a Marina or Conan video!!!
Thank u for the video, love it as always! To the best songs I would add nearly entire 'West End Girl' album from Lily Allen, its billiant!!!
