Everything we’ve ever assumed about the Upside Down has been dead wrong.
The heroes of Hawkins may be bloodied and battered, but the “Stranger Things” Season 5 Volume 2 trailer assures us that the war is not over — not by a long shot.
The first four episodes in the long-awaited conclusion to “Stranger Things” are on Netflix now, with the next three episodes dropping on December 25 and the series finale — also in theaters — on December 31. Each volume releases at 5pm PT/8pm ET.
“We’ve always known that Will has a connection to Vecna and the Upside Down,” series co-creator Ross Duffer told Netflix. “In Season 2, we started to delve into it, but one of the earliest ideas in the new season is, ‘What if Will were able to harness this connection and use it against our villains?’”
Duffer continues, “We also felt it very natural to re-center the story on Will. He was the kid who was taken in Season 1, so it felt right for the story to come full circle. If anyone [was] going to be the key to ending Vecna, it needed to be Will.”
In the fall of 1987, Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding.
As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.

“Stranger Things” debuted in 2016 and quickly became one of Netflix’s most popular properties. Although the series is coming to an end, the franchise will live on with the animated series “Stranger Things: Tales from ’85” in 2026 and a live-action spinoff in the works.
