  1. I got to sub pre-k on their third day of school today.

    😅… to say the least

  2. Love kindergarten teachers!!! And whoaaa those subs are so important!!! Here are some resources created as a MATH SONG request from kindergarten teachers! https://youtu.be/TYdnHhzYTm8

  3. You know that map on the wall is upside down. Oh and this is an excellent video. I have taught Kindergarten and 1st grade. Your advice is on target!

  4. 2:18 Can a kindergartner/1st grader come in to greet the substitute teacher with an older sibling, older cousin, aunt/uncle, great uncle, great aunt, great-grandparent, great-granduncle or great-grandaunt or no?

  5. Hi..I want to become sub teacher for elementary school..can u tell me the process ..and is there any certification need?

  6. Thank you for the video. I’m not sure what Elementary school grade I will have for my first class tomorrow, but this felt helpful.
Curious why the map is upside down 🤔

  7. I'm hoping to work at the old catholic school I went to as a middle grader, as a part-time substitute teacher teaching kindergartners

  8. I understand things happen and sometimes they will be late. What irritates me is when students try to tell me to mark them present because that student is always late and will probably be late today again. No, I cannot mark u present unless you're physically in the room. Bring me a tardy slip from the main office, following school rules, and everything will be okay.

  9. I can't ever do kindergarten again. I can't stand the been poked on my arm by several students all day, everytime they have a question. And they have a question every couple of minutes. Just ughh! No thanks! I'll pass!

  10. I am starting a job subbing for a 3 year old kindergarten class this month. I am SO nervous! This video helped me!

  11. Thank you so much for making this video. I was clueless about first graders. I now am confident today will go well.

  12. Very good thank you. Short point 3 yrs in Phila pa grade 1 and 2 harder than 29 yrs 2 months working in prison yours Evans w Robinson

  13. When they don’t know who you are they have huge eyes and they look scared as the day goes on they are a lot happier

  14. I wish you still made videos. All of your videos have been so helpful! When I first started subbing, I would watch them the night before to prepare. I re-watch them for reassurance sometimes. Such a great resource! 🙂

  15. Oh forgot I too get lots of hugs. The children are so eager to help the sub. I've had small children that started crying, just like you said they would, when they realized there was a new face. I just reassured them, told them we were gong to have a fun, happy day and I needed them to help me and it did not take long for them to warm up to me. I get lots of love notes done in crayon. If you want to feel needed, sub in an elementary school. For some of these kids, the only positive attention they get from an adult or surrogate mother is at school. And remember, the only behavior you can change and control is your own. The behaviors you see in children this small is indicative of an unmet need. All behavior has meaning.

  16. I'm subbing tomorrow for the 1st time in a K class. Luckily I'll have a teacher's assistant with me that knows the children. I took an Effective Teacher Training course at the beginning of the year and between your videos and the class, I've had no trouble subbing in any elementary school. Your advice really helps. I even landed a permanent part time position as a Math Tutor for 2,3 and 4th grades at the same school.

  17. Thank you so much for this video. I feel a lot more calm about subbing tomorrow in Kindergarten after watching this. Excellent tips!

  18. Thank you this was very helpful

  19. Great tips teachers, this may not be related but I have a 5 year old in kindergarten and when he gets home never wants to do extra work just wants to play. How can I get him to be interested in learning at home too. He is a very young kindergartener started at 4 years old for a few months then turned 5. and is a little behind so naturally want to help at home in addition but instead all he wants to do is play, how can I turn this around. TY

  20. Yes I agree!  I do long term in these grades and know them well.  You have to be firm and consistent.  You need a good sense of humor and need to be able to ask the right questions.  You need to know not just the rewards but also the behavior plans. If all else fails just let them play with indoor voices.  If you do not control the class you will lose them very easy.  If they see that you are lost then your day will be difficult.  Show them you know what you are doing and tell them you are the boss!  Also tell them you do things your way or they will be correcting you all day and that gets tiresome.
