Xiaomi could follow Apple’s iOS steps in terms of year-based software naming and directly jump to HyperOS 26. A new rumor has surfaced on internet, hinting that the Chinese tech giant could be the next after iOS to change its software name!
To begin with, Bloomberg recently reported that Apple might name the iOS 18 successor – iOS 26 and not iOS 19. The iPhone maker can adopt this change for the entire software segment, including macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and visionOS.
As of now, XiaomiTime suggests that Xiaomi could also take an iOS-inspired step and name its Android 16-based skin HyperOS 26, instead of HyperOS 3.0.
Inputs reveal that the companies are planning to introduce a year-based naming scheme for their software versions. Simply put, the software builds might reflect the latest calendar year in their naming for better clarity among users.
The source reveals that Xiaomi is seemingly planning a name change for its software to align with the market’s top strategies and maintain clarity among users for the software’s relevance and timeline.
On the other hand, this change marks long-term sustainability and global standardization. But these changes are still in the rumors phase and do not have any confirmation.
It would be worth seeing whether Xiaomi will follow Apple’s footsteps for the software naming or consider the same traditional way as others. Stay tuned.
