WASHINGTON \u2014 It\u2019s not just\u00a0Biden family artwork\u00a0<\/a>that\u2019s struggling to sell these days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former President Joe Biden\u2019s attempt to bill $300,000 per speaking appearance is finding few takers, The Post has learned \u2014 as some of his own former aides say it\u2019s time for the 82-year-old to leave the spotlight for good after\u00a0reminiscing about \u201ccolored kids\u201d\u00a0<\/a>Tuesday in his first public address since leaving office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A source familiar with Biden\u2019s faltering speaking career said that the 46th president\u2019s standard pitch is $300,000 \u2014 25% below Barack Obama\u2019s $400,000 asking price upon leaving office in 2017.<\/p>

<\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s unclear how negotiable Biden\u2019s rate is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If travel is required, a private jet and expenses for five staffers also is expected for Biden, who has been\u00a0repped since early February<\/a>\u00a0by the Creative Artists Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCAA is having trouble booking gigs, which isn\u2019t surprising,\u201d the tipster said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A second source said they heard people close to Biden floating an even higher desired fee, despite the ex-commander in chief having a history of peddling\u00a0glaring<\/a>\u00a0inaccuracies\u00a0<\/a>before his political career came to a crashing end when he delivered\u00a0incoherent debate remarks that prompted a Democratic mutiny<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biden\u2019s use of \u201ccolored\u201d to refer to black people while speaking at a disability conference in Chicago earlier this week has some former aides hoping he will spend more time at his Rehoboth Beach house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis was hard to watch,\u201d said one former White House official. \u201cIt felt like seeing someone you care about start to regress. We just wanted him to enjoy retirement like other presidents \u2014 not go out like this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ex-aide noted that minority staffers had been growing disillusioned even during Biden\u2019s presidency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBlack people elected Joe Biden, and then his senior team cut them off, even staff hired to help with engagement,\u201d this person said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some former aides want Biden to \u201cenjoy retirement\u201d after his remarks to a disability conference.AP<\/sup><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Biden\u2019s first known speech since leaving office took\u00a0place March 15 at a National High School Model United Nations conference<\/a>\u00a0(NHSMUN), followed by his Tuesday address to the group Advocates, Counselors, and Representatives for the Disabled (ACRD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, the former president spoke to an\u00a0invitation-only Harvard\u00a0Institute of Politics seminar<\/a>\u00a0arranged by his longtime aide Mike Donilon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Harvard spokesman said Biden was not paid for that visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spokespeople for NHSMUN and ACRD did not respond to requests for comment about whether they paid Biden \u2014 and if so, what amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The precise reason that Biden is struggling to find top-dollar audiences is unclear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The quality of potential remarks aside, some former aides say that CAA \u2014 which declined to comment for this story, and which also reps former Vice President Kamala Harris \u2014 may be ill-positioned to book lucrative business conference gigs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An alternate theory holds that interest in Biden\u2019s thoughts will build over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One source close to Biden\u2019s post-presidential office said that signing with CAA was a \u201cbad decision.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Harry Walker Agency, which works with both Bill and Hillary Clinton as well as Obama, \u201chas relationships with all these large annual conferences and clients looking for high-profile speakers,\u201d this person said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCAA is a Hollywood shop. They\u2019re not set up to market speakers to, like, the\u00a0national duty-free shopping conference<\/a>. The bread and butter of paid speaking gigs is random large annual industry conferences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A different source concurred in that assessment, but added they believed Biden could rebound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI do not think he is a draw yet,\u201d this former staffer said. \u201cI think he will be more of a draw as Trump continues to dismantle our democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biden had little trouble raking in big sums post-vice presidency \u2014 as did his brother James and son Hunter, who offered their consulting services to foreign patrons during and after his eight years as Obama\u2019s second-in-command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much of Biden\u2019s prior success in the public speaking business came from colleges, which may have soured on the former president after he spent four years in the White House railing against the high cost of education and the ensuing burden of college debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His post-VP windfall included $190,000 to speak at Drew University in New Jersey; $182,000 from Lake Michigan\u00a0College, a\u00a0community\u00a0college; $180,000 to appear at Vanderbilt University; $180,000 to speak at the\u00a0University of Buffalo; $125,000 to visit\u00a0Southern Connecticut State University; $100,000 to speak at\u00a0Long Island University, and $93,000 to visit Brown University, according to public disclosures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
