On May 7, 2025, the Indian Army carried out a high-precision retaliatory strike under \u201cOperation Sindoor,\u201d targeting nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This operation was launched in direct response to the deadly terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen.<\/p>\n

According to Indian military sources, the operation was \u201cmeasured, targeted, and non-provocative,\u201d with a clear focus on dismantling terror infrastructure. Importantly, no Pakistani military establishments were targeted. The Indian Army stated that the strikes were aimed solely at terrorist launch pads and camps used for planning attacks against India.<\/p>\n

Pakistan condemned the strikes, calling them an \u201cunprovoked act of war.\u201d Pakistani authorities claimed that at least nine civilians, including women and children, were killed and 35 others injured as a result of the Indian air strikes. In retaliation, Pakistan claimed to have downed two Indian Air Force jets and destroyed a brigade headquarters\u2014though these claims have not been independently verified.<\/p>\n

Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have escalated sharply following these developments. India has suspended provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty and hinted at further diplomatic pressure. In response, Pakistan has reportedly closed its airspace to Indian aircraft.<\/p>\n

The international community, including the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the United States, has expressed concern over the rising hostilities and urged both nations to exercise restraint and resolve issues through dialogue.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Indian government reiterated its resolve to safeguard national security and continue its zero-tolerance policy against terrorism.
