Congress goes out of session for the rest of 2025 starting at the end of the week, so there are just five days left to extend cost-saving and life-saving tax credits that help over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cms.gov\/files\/document\/health-insurance-exchanges-2025-open-enrollment-reportpdf508-compliant.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow\">20 million people<\/a> access health care.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The solution that Republican leaders in Congress proposed is like the Grinch rummaging through the attic and re-gifting failed health care ideas from years past. They\u2019ve put a big bow on a package that doesn\u2019t lower costs or protect families. With the Republicans\u2019 proposed bill, nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.protectourcare.org\/accountability-autumn-the-trump-gop-health-care-disaster-is-ripping-away-coverage-from-millions\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">5 million people<\/a>\u2014including children and people with pre-existing conditions\u2014will lose their health care coverage altogether.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/action.momsrising.org\/sign\/DontBeAGrinch2025\/?source=blog\">The only way for Republican leaders to address this health care crisis of their making is for Congress to extend the ACA tax credits. Sign on now!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Buried in the fine print of this House Republican health care package are extremist anti-abortion policies. The Republican proposal ensures that tax credit funding cannot go to any plans that cover abortion, effectively <a href=\"https:\/\/rollcall.com\/2025\/12\/15\/this-week-congress-has-much-to-do-before-holiday-recess\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">banning abortion<\/a> coverage in all ACA plans. Now, with nearly $1 trillion in cuts to health care over the summer and the ACA premium tax credits on the line, a dire situation has escalated into a full-blown crisis. Fifteen million people will already lose health care due to Medicaid cuts passed earlier this year. If Congress does not renew the ACA premium tax credits before they\u2019re set to expire at the end of the year, then health care costs will more than double for over 20 million people, and nearly 5 million additional people will lose their health coverage altogether.<\/h4>\n<h4>When millions become uninsured, it will strain the entire health care system, driving up costs across the board and forcing hundreds of hospitals, maternity wards, and nursing homes to close. Research has found that millions of Americans will collectively pay an estimated $23 billion more next year just to maintain the same level of coverage they currently rely on.
